Berberine, The Most Studied Name Here

If you strip this formula back to one ingredient people have actually heard of, it is Berberine. It leads the label, which means it carries the largest share of the 500 mg, and it carries the largest body of human research of anything on the panel.

Where it comes from. A yellow alkaloid found in barberry, goldenseal and Chinese goldthread among others. It has been used in traditional medicine across Asia and Europe for centuries, and studied in controlled trials for around forty years.

What the research concerns. Glucose handling, more than anything else. It is one of the few plant compounds in this category with a substantial number of randomised human trials behind it rather than laboratory work alone.

The dose problem, stated plainly. Those trials generally use several hundred milligrams a day of berberine on its own, often split across doses. The whole GlycoAid blend is 500 mg across fourteen ingredients. Berberine leads the list, so it has the largest share, and the largest share of 500 mg divided fourteen ways is still very unlikely to reach a trial dose.

Why the capsule is taken with food. Berberine is behind most of the mild stomach upset reported in the first week. Taking it with a meal rather than on an empty stomach prevents nearly all of it. This is the single most useful instruction on the bottle.
